🏗️ Project Overview
In May 2015, Pop Brixton - a community-led creative space housed in repurposed shipping containers - launched its vibrant urban hub, featuring shops, street food, studios, and social enterprises in Lambeth, south London.
As part of this transformation, Keder Greenhouse Ltd was commissioned to deliver a bespoke greenhouse installation to anchor the community-focused Pop Farm initiative.
🌱 Design & Purpose
The greenhouse measured 8 m wide × 24 m long, with 2.4 m headroom to ensure visitor comfort
It was designed as an elevated structure sited atop the shipping containers, creating a light-filled atrium overlooking the complex
Long vents (including a 20 m roof vent and side vents) maintained airflow and temperature control once operational
Structural reinforcement included double pavilion trusses and additional trellis arches, to ensure stability at height in an exposed setting.
🛠️ Installation & Construction
Installation was completed in about one week, once the supporting foundations and bracketry were in place.
The Keder team worked closely with Pop Brixton’s resident community, coordinating efforts to align with the broader opening schedule (opening date: 29 May 2015)
Their modular yet site-specific approach finalised a greenhouse seamlessly integrated into the community complex.
🌻 Community & Functional Impact
The greenhouse serves as the horticultural heart of Pop Farm, showcasing edible and ornamental plants cultivated by local volunteers and businesses
Originally featuring 250 Amaryllis bulbs for the Chelsea Fringe Festival’s Garden of Disorientation, the planting later transitioned to vegetables and fruit crops including beans, tomatoes, figs and more - visible throughout the container-lined space below.

✅ Outcomes & Highlights
Delivered on time and on budget, the greenhouse complemented Pop Brixton’s ethos: local enterprise, community involvement, sustainability and visual interest.
The wind-resistant design and elevated installation overcame logistical constraints to deliver a robust, functional, community-linked facility.
Summary
The Pop Brixton greenhouse is a standout example of how design-led, robust greenhouse technology can transform an underused space into a thriving community garden venue. Through precise engineering and close collaboration with the Pop team, Keder delivered a greenhouse that’s not just structurally impressive but also socially and botanically engaging.
