We had the pleasure of going out to install a 3m x 4m Domestic Greenhouse in Gloucestershire this month and here is what the customers thought.

From start to finish, my journey with Keder has been a joy.  The service we received, both on purchase and on installation was faultless. 

We first saw Keder at the Malvern Spring show some years ago and it caught our eye but we weren’t in the market for a new greenhouse at that time. 

Fast forward five years and it became obvious t

hat if we wanted to ‘future-proof’ our vegetable garden, an upgrade to our existing cheap, small twin-wall polycarbonate structure would be needed.  It proved impossible to grow anything in it last summer as the temperature inside reached in excess of 50 degrees celcius.

We set to work researching a possible replacement, looking at traditional glass greenhouses, polycarbonate and also at poly-tunnels.  Having looked into everything it became obvious that glass would be all but out of the question as due to the layout of our garden it would be very difficult to build a suitable base upon which to put it, without first having to sell at least one body part in which to pay a builder to move every bucket of cement the entire length of the garden by hand.  Replacing like for like was also unattractive.  Having watched several YouTube videos on the pros and cons of poly-tunnels vs greenhouses (we can particularly recommend those by Charles Dowding and ChilliChump) we decided that the day to day difficulties of running a poly-tunnel effectively meant that this too was also not an attractive proposition.

Additionally, poly-tunnels have several problems in common with greenhouses (regardless of the type of glazing); extremes of heat and cold (requiring shading in the summer and insulation in the winter) and ventilation (or rather the lack of it).

Then the lightbulb moment, we remembered Keder and their greenhouse solved all of our issues;

-  Ease of installation – it was not necessary to build a solid base, only to clear and level the site. 

-  Construction – the construction of the frame is sturdy enough to withstand anything that the weather in our part of the world can throw at it and then some.  The covering may look like bubble wrap but it definitely isn’t.  It is undoubtedly sturdy enough to see us good for (most likely) as long as we are able to keep growing in it.

-  Light diffusion – one of the biggest issues with regular greenhouses (be they glass or polycarbonate) and poly-tunnels is that light - and therefore heat - is directional depending on the position of the sun.  Short of installing shading or constantly moving your plants around there is no solution.  The Keder’s cover design negates this issue.  The difference is like going from a room lit by a halogen angle lamp to one lit by a bright LED with a diffuser cover fitted.  The light comes through the cover and is diffused evenly throughout the structure, meaning no scorching or hot-spots.

- Temperature variations – the design of the Keder cover means that it will retain more heat in winter and heat up more slowly in the summer.  No need for insulation or horticultural fleece.

- Ventilation – the option to have an opening door at the other end of the structure instead of just a regular vent was a godsend.  We have a funny shaped garden and it means that I can have a utility space at the back, saving more garden-space for growing vegetables. The roof vents are as long as the individual sections (2m) so this, along with the door at each end (which open from the inside too) means that ventilation is not a problem, with everything being fully adjustable depending on the weather or direction of the wind.

- Customer service – from the minute we approached their stand at the Malvern show in June, they could not have been more helpful;  their advice meant we avoided making any mistakes in the configuration of the structure.  We were also fortunate enough to be able to arrange for them to install it for us and the whole thing (3m x 4m) was up and functional within three hours of their arrival.

Overall, we cannot recommend Keder enough and are very excited to start our growing journey with it.  We could never have achieved the growing space we now have with a traditional greenhouse; and the technical specifications, build quality and flexibility of the Keder made it a no-brainer for us.
