RHS School Gardeners of the Year Competition

Win A Free Keder Greenhouse with Gardening Competition

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) campaign for School Gardening has launched it's annual search for the most talented and inspiring school gardeners in the fourth RHS School Gardeners of the Tear Competition and will reward one lucky winning gardening team with a top specification Keder Greenhouse.

Schools all over the UK are invited to appoint their green-fingered superstars for three exciting awards:

- RHS Young School Gardener of the Year

- RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year

- RHS School Gardening Team of the Year

All nominations will then be considered and top entries will be shortlisted for the chance to win. Shortlisted nominees will be asked to prove their winning potential by creating a short video, demonstrating their love of gardening. The videos will be watched by an experienced judging panel, headed up by ITV's Love Your Garden presenter, Frances Tophill.

In support of the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Competition, we have provided the top prize for the RHS School Gardening Team of the Year. Winners of this category will be given one of our unique, quality-built Keder Greenhouses, worth £2,644. Additional prizes for all three categories include £500 in gardening vouchers, tools, gardening gloves, tickets to the RHS Flower Show and fantastic opportunities including the chance to work alongside RHS gardeners for a day, or a visit from Frances to help out in their own school garden.

Last year, the search for youthful gardening talent, between the ages of 5 and 16, unearthed winner George Hassall, aged nine years old from Buckton Vale Primary School, Greater Manchester. Impressing judges with his enthusiasm and impressive knowledge of the gardening world, George has since become a guest speaker at careers conferences and made debut TV and Radio appearances on BBC's The One Show and BBC Radio Manchester.

The RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year 2014 was a new award to the campaign last year, introduced to locate dedicated teachers and school volunteers, who continuously help teach young people valuable skills in outdoors. The search awarded Noreen Daw the winning spot, a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Imberhome School in West Sussex. Noreen was praised for incredible passion and commitment.

Also introduced last year was the RHS School Gardening Team of the Year. Won by a 39-strong Eco Club from Ysgol Esgob Morgan in Denbigshire, the team were pronounced winners for their unwavering teamwork skills and infectious enthusiasm.

ITV's Love Your Garden Presenter, Frances Tophill, commented on the value of the Gardening Competition: "Last year we saw an incredible range of talented young people and teachers. It's fantastic to see that all over the UK, young people are able to take their learning outdoors and hone not only horticultural skills, but very valuable life skills".

Sarah Cathcart is Head of Education and Learning at the RHS and highlighted: " The competition is a great way of raising the profile of school gardening and encouraging young people to delve into the world of horticulture – there is a wealth of careers out there suited to a range of skills and backgrounds."
